Medical Training Experience
Dr Ong obtained her medical degree from the National University of Singapore (NUS) and upon completion of her surgical training, was awarded membership to the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Thereafter, she attained her Master of Medicine in Surgery from NUS.
As a result of her expertise, she was awarded a Ministry of Health, Human Manpower Development Programme (HMDP) fellowship in microsurgical reconstructive surgery, spending a year training at the prestigious Bernard O’Brien Institute of Microsurgery and St. Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne. She gained crucial experience in many areas of reconstructive surgery, especially in the management of complex reconstruction.
Returning to Singapore with newfound knowledge and skills, she completed her specialist plastic surgery training at the National University Hospital (NUH) to become a MOH accredited Plastic Surgeon in 2007. She is also a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore.
Dr. Ong has continued to stay abreast of developments and innovations in her field, spending time at top plastic surgery centres around the world. This includes the University of Tokyo Hospital, Malmo (Sweden), Chang Sung Memorial Hospital (Taiwan), and Hanyang University (Korea), upgrading her knowledge in fields such as lymphoedema surgery and microsurgical reconstructive surgery.
She has been active in reconstructive work, including breast reconstruction, reconstruction after resections for skin, head and neck, abdomen, pelvis and extremity cancers; facial reconstruction after facial nerve palsy. Her other areas of interest include body contouring surgery, liposuction, breast aesthetic surgery, skin lump surgery, lymphoedema as well as facial aesthetics.
Academia
In addition to her medical practice, Dr. Ong remains engaged in teaching and academia. She previously held the appointment of Programme Director of the National University Health System plastic surgery residency training programme and is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine.
Dr. Ong has published numerous scientific papers in respected peer reviewed medical journals and books and has been invited to give lectures both locally and internationally. She continues to serve as Visiting Senior Consultant at the NUH.
